The beautiful environs of Chawton House Library and the rolling Hampshire countryside surrounding it is the perfect setting for your big day. Whether you are seeking an intimate ceremony in the Lutyens-inspired Oak Room, a civil ceremony in the glorious panelled Dining Room, or a larger wedding in the Great Hall, we can accommodate your requirements. We can cater for everything from small ceremonies of only a few people, to wedding receptions for up to two hundred guests in a marquee on the lawn.
Maximum capacities per room are as follows:
Civil Ceremonies & Partnerships for up to 75 people:

Seated meal for up to 60 people inside the house:
- Maids Sitting Room 8
- Oak Room 10

- Great Hall 60
Our picturesque Old Kitchen and courtyard are available for drinks receptions after a ceremony. If you only want to host your ceremony at the house, we can accommodate this at a reduced fee.
We don’t offer wedding packages, as we believe that every wedding is unique and should be individual to the couple celebrating their wedding day. It is vital that the planning process is as stress-free as possible, and with this in mind we have put together a list of approved suppliers of caterers, marquee companies and florists to assist with the process. We have an established relationship with these companies and feel that they can best support you in making your special day run as smoothly as possible.
Other helpful information:
- Our committed staff are on hand to assist as much or as little as you would like, every step of the way, from initial enquiry and planning, to the big day itself.
- Each wedding is individual and we try to accommodate all requests from couples where possible.
- Because we are a historic house, we necessarily have to put in place
some restrictions to safeguard the fabric of the building; please read the additional notes at end of the hire agreement. - Chawton House Library has a valid premises license in place.
